Gurgaon: As the country celebrates its 80th Independence Day, the city honoured 24 individuals across various sectors for their distinguished service and contributions.The police department accounted for the largest share, with nine entries, including joint citations covering multiple personnel. Other sectors represented in the honours include civic administration, education, disability support, social service, judiciary and sports.The awardees include HPS officer Virender Singh, ACP (HQ), recognised for maintaining law and order through effective coordination and prompt intervention. EASI Rajendra, who was martyred while on duty, was also honoured for his exemplary service.Other police personnel recognised for their specific operations include ASI Dharam Chand and SI Rajesh Kumar from Wazirpur police post for early recovery of a kidnapped child. SI Mohammad Zahid of Bilaspur police, SI Vivek, SI Praveen and EHSASI Sadarang were also awarded for their dedication and diligence in carrying out duties.A group of personnel, including SI Giriraj, SI Sanjay, ASI Amit, MHC Neelam and SI Rajbir, were recognised for their contribution to crime detection and effective police action. Another team — ASI Harish, ASI Ramdeya, ASI Sunil Kumar, HC Inderjeet, HC Anil, Constable Shamsher, Constable Naveen and Constable Manjit — have been honoured for effective action against gangster activities.Municipal Corporation officials whose work contributed to the civic body’s legal and revenue functions were also honoured. District Attorney Sumer Singh Malhan and Assistant District Attorney Amit Malik have been recognised for handling the corporation’s legal work before lower courts, High Court and Supreme Court, including writ petitions, COCs, SOPs and civil appeals. Tehsildar Harkesh Gupta, along with patwari Harkesh and Praveen, was applauded for the corporation’s revenue work.Individuals in the education sector were also appreciated for their distinguished services, including principal Vinita Talus of district education office and PGT chemistry and NSS programme officer Rajender Singh.Talus was recognised for her leadership, conducting awareness programmes and health and welfare initiatives. Her school also recorded a 100% result in board examinations, with eight Class 10 and 13 Class 12 students securing places on the merit list. Singh was honoured for his significant contribution to environmental protection.Further, Arth Sevier Foundation in Bandhwari village was honoured for providing accommodation, food, medicines and other facilities to around 1,300 persons with disabilities, including people with mental disabilities and destitute persons. Social workers Rukmani Sharma and Ranjan Ghosh were included for their contribution to the child-protection ecosystem in the district and work at CCI Udyan Ghar for Boys, respectively.District and Sessions Judge establishment honoured Superintendent Rajiv Kapoor for exceptional devotion to duty, professional commitment and concern for preservation of judicial records.Athlete Shashank Singh Kataria, para-athlete and para-shooter Devershee Sachan and archer Jiya were also honoured for their sporting excellence.
