Noida: Five members of a gang that cheated more than 10 people by allegedly displaying fake gold and currency to convince them to hand over cash or jewellery were arrested from the green belt near Noida Extension Flat Owner Welfare Association chhath ghat.Central Noida DCP Swatantra Singh said the racket came to light after a woman filed a complaint about her jewellery being stolen on July 10. The elderly woman had gone to the market of Fusion Homes Society where one of the men approached her. They were soon joined by a third man. This man told them that he had recently been fired by his employer but he had stolen a bag of cash from his employer’s house.Police cracked the case using electronic surveillance, CCTV footage and human intelligence and arrested four men: Kishore Rai (42), Vishal Rai (21), Sanju Rai (30) and Seva Ram Rai (60), and a woman, Meena (56), on Friday. They are residents of Yusufpur Chak, Shahberi.The gang used two principal methods to cheat people, police said. They allegedly showed people fake gold and persuaded them to pay money in exchange for it or placed genuine currency notes above and below bundles of paper to make the bundles appear to contain large amounts of cash in exchange for real pieces of jewellery.Police have seized two bunches of yellow-metal beads weighing 5 kg, yellow-metal coins weighing 3 kg, Rs 3 lakh in cash, 10 keypad mobile phones, nine batteries for keypad phones, six smartphones and a knife.A case has been registered under BNS sections 318(3) (cheating) and 317(2) (stolen property) and Section 4/25 of the Arms Act at the Bisrakh police station.
