New Delhi: A spell of light rain is likely on Independence Day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoists the national flag at the Red Fort.The India Meteorological Department, which has issued a special forecast for the Red Fort for Independence Day, has predicted light to very light showers Saturday between 4am and 6am, with a 70% probability. Another spell of light rain, of about 5 mm, is likely between 6am and 9am with 60% probability.IMD said even after the celebrations are over, another spell of very light rainfall of about 3 mm with 60% probability is expected between the afternoon and evening.Several parts of the city got rainfall Friday too.IMD has been issuing forecasts for special days such as for Aug 15, Republic Day, Char Dham Yatra, Kolkata’s Durga Puja and Jagannath Rath Yatra.Friday, between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, Pusa got 30 mm, Chhatarpur 24.5 mm, Naraina 10 mm, Palam 8.4 mm, Mayur Vihar 8 mm, Safdarjung 5.8 mm, Janakpuri 3 mm, Lodhi Road 3.2 mm, Janakpuri 3 mm, and Ridge 1.8 mm rainfall.This Aug, Safdarjung has received 221.4 mm of rainfall against the entire month’s normal of 233.1mm. “There are chances of very light-to-light rain over the next seven days,” a Met official said.However, no colour-coded warning has been issued.The maximum temperature dipped to 30.5 degrees Celsius, three notches below the normal. It was 35.2 degrees Celsius a day earlier. The heat index or feels-like temperature was 40.2 degrees Celsius at 11.30 am. After the rain, it dipped to 26 degrees Celsius at 2.30 pm. The mercury is expected to stay around 32-34 degrees Celsius over the next few days.The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.8 degrees Celsius. It is likely to remain between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius Saturday and may dip to around 23-25 degrees Celsius Sunday.Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) dipped from moderate to satisfactory Friday with a reading of 98.
