Bengaluru: Expired food ingredients and misbranded products were among the violations detected by Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) officials in the kitchen of Apollo Hospitals on Bannerghatta Road Thursday.Officials found expired raw materials, including rava, icing sugar, maida and bakery products, stored in the kitchen. Four packets of mixture and nine packets of pani puri were found among the expired stock. Stale bread was detected too, raising concerns over storage and handling of food meant for consumption.The inspection team found two plastic chopping boards being used in the kitchen. Several food products were found to be misbranded — five packets of methi (fenugreek) leaves, six packets of fried gram weighing 30kg each, one 30kg packet of green peas and five 30kg packets of moong dal.Reacting to the findings, Apollo Hospitals said patient safety is their highest priority. During the inspection, the authorities noted certain labelling and declaration-related observations involving a small number of food items, the hospital said, adding these were procedural in nature and did not impact food quality or patient safety.BOXHotels slapped Rs 1.6-lakh fine for violationsBengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) imposed a total penalty of Rs 1.6 lakh on hotels and food establishments during inspections conducted by health officials in Byatarayanapura and Yelahanka Thursday.The inspections, carried out on the directions of BNCC commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar, found violations related to food safety, hygiene and solid waste management.At Hyatt Centric on Kempegowda International Airport Road, officials found improper waste segregation and slapped a penalty of Rs 40,000. Peepai Brewery & Kitchen was fined Rs 80,000 in two cases after officials found expired cooking oil in the storeroom, while meat kept in cold storage was neither covered nor labelled. Officials said there were no invoices showing the date of meat procurement. The violations related to FSSAI and solid waste management rules.Thalassery Restaurant in Sahakar Nagar was fined Rs 20,000 for improper waste segregation, unhygienic premises and use of single-use plastic. Chickpete Donne Biriyani, also in Sahakar Nagar, was fined Rs 5,000 for similar violations.At Nandhana Palace in Sahakar Nagar, officials found improper waste segregation, use of single-use plastic and unhygienic conditions, following which a penalty of Rs 15,000 was imposed.
