Ahmedabad: The admission process for MBBS and BDS seats in Gujarat is set to be delayed following an extension of the All-India Quota (AIQ) registration deadline, which has disrupted the schedule previously announced for state quota seats.State medical and dental registrations concluded on Aug 12, with 16,430 candidates registering with the Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate Medical Educational Courses (ACPUGMEC). Of these, 16,221 students completed document verification across designated help centres. A total of 16,540 PINs were purchased during the distribution window from July 31 to Aug 12.ACPUGMEC had initially planned to publish the state merit list by Aug 14 and commence the first round of choice filling on Aug 18. However, because state quota counselling can only proceed after corresponding AIQ stages are complete, the timeline now stands deferred.Under the revised national schedule, AIQ registrations will remain open until Aug 15, with choice filling allowed till Aug 17 and seat allotment set for Aug 18. Candidates allotted AIQ seats must confirm admissions between Aug 20 and Aug 25, after which vacant seats will be announced on Aug 26.Consequently, state quota admissions cannot move forward before Aug 25. ACPUGMEC is expected to release a revised timetable for merit publication, choice filling, and allotment in the coming days. Committee sources indicated that while choice filling will be postponed, the state merit list may still be released by Aug 18 to give clarity to thousands of medical aspirants across Gujarat.
