Varanasi: An accused carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 was arrested after an encounter with a joint team of the SWAT/Surveillance unit and Saiyadraja police near Samaiya Pattidari under the Saiyadraja police station limits in Chandauli district on Wednesday night.The accused, Raju Musahar, a resident of Bhabhua in Bihar’s Kaimur district, was wanted in connection with a dacoity and murder case registered at Saiyadraja police station. The incident took place on December 15, 2025, in Tindhua village under Saiyadraja police station limits. Seven accused were allegedly involved in the case, of whom five had already been arrested, while two were absconding.Police said surveillance inputs indicated that Raju was likely to enter Chandauli district again and might commit another crime. Acting on the information, teams from Saiyadraja police, led by SHO Ashok Mishra, along with SOG and Surveillance personnel, began checking suspicious persons and vehicles near Pattidari-Sawaiya Mahalwar.During the checking, police spotted the accused. When the team tried to stop him, he allegedly opened fire after finding himself surrounded. Police retaliated in self-defence, and Raju sustained a bullet injury in his leg. He was taken into custody and sent to the district hospital for treatment.Police recovered a .315-bore country-made pistol, an empty cartridge, a misfired cartridge and a motorcycle from his possession. The motorcycle is being verified to ascertain whether it was stolen or belonged to the accused.Police said six criminal cases involving Raju have surfaced so far, and details of other cases against him are being collected.
