Dibrugarh: Security forces have intensified vigilance across upper Assam after Ulfa-I and NSCN/GPRN called for an Independence Day boycott.Security has been tightened in Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar and Charaideo, once considered Ulfa-I strongholds.In Dibrugarh, police are conducting area domination exercises and have intensified night, foot, motorcycle and river patrols. SSP Abhijit Gurav said additional forces had been deployed at sensitive locations based on intelligence inputs.Security has been strengthened around oil and gas pipelines, powerhouses, transmission towers, bridges, railway stations, the airport, markets and other public places. Vigilance has also been stepped up at Khanikar parade ground, the venue of the official celebration, Dibrugarh Airport, Bogibeel bridge and industrial units.Tinsukia police have intensified patrols along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, a transit corridor for militants travelling towards Myanmar. SSP Mayank Kumar said entry points, railway stations, bus stands and crowded places were being monitored in coordination with central forces and neighbouring districts.In flood-hit Sivasagar, SSP Papori Chetia is leading patrols in vulnerable areas. Round-the-clock vehicle checks are under way at the town’s entry and exit points, while police are visiting villages and monitoring areas with a history of overground worker presence.IGP (Eastern Range) Kangkan Jyoti Saikia reviewed security preparedness and law and order in Sivasagar on Thursday.Charaideo has intensified patrols along its Nagaland and Arunachal borders, while continuing flood relief operations. Police are coordinating with forces across the borders to prevent militant infiltration.Authorities have urged residents to report suspicious activity.
