3-month-old rescued from child trafficking gang, 7 held

Ghaziabad: Police busted a gang of child traffickers and rescued an infant from their possession in Tronica City, arresting seven members of the gang on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the child’s father filed a police complaint alleging that his 3-month-old boy had been taken from his house by a couple.The baby’s father, Furkaan, moved to the city around two and a half years prior. He lives in a rented house in front of Karan Gate Chowki with his wife Muskan and their three children Kabir (5), Farhan (3), and 3-month-old Allabakhsh. Furkaan works asa labourer.In the police complaint, Furkaan identified the couple as his neighbours, Naushad and his wife Rukhsar. Furkaan said the couple have been living in the same building for around six months. On Aug 9, while the family was preparing for Furkaan’s brother’s upcoming wedding, Naushad’s wife Rukhsar came overto them with her daughter and abducted the baby on the pretext of feeding him.An FIR was lodged and teams were formed to rescue the child. Police collected information through manual input, CCTV footage, clue-gathering, follow-up, and surveillance. Early on Wednesday morning, the team busted a gang involved in trafficking newborn infants and arrested seven accused – two women and five men – from Farrukhnagar in the Hindon Nadi Chowki area. They also seized two mobile phones used in the crime. The baby was safely handed over to the family.The accused are Naushad (36), his wife Rukhsar, Anuel (35), Nagendra alias Sukka (35), Sumitra (58), Naseem (38) and Abid (40).DCP (city and trans-Hindon) Dhawal Jaiswal said that Naushad and Anuel are friends who worked at the same clothes factory in Sonipat. Anuel told Naushad and his wife Rukhsar that Mausina, a resident of Kandhla in Shamli, was willing to pay Rs 5 lakh for a child. On Tuesday, Rukhsar took Furkaan’s youngest son from their home. They were supposed to leave Ghaziabad for Shamli when they were arrested.The other accused were arrested for colluding and assisting in the crime. The accused were involved in similar cases in the past, police said.During interrogation, Naushad confessed that he had sold his own infant to another childless couple in Sonipat a year and a half prior for Rs 2.4 lakh. He had also struck a deal to sell off his brother’s children in the past as well.The accused have been charged under BNS sections 137(2) (kidnapping), 143(4) (trafficking of person) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of BNS at Teela Mor police station, and more sections will be included in the chargesheet after the investigation is finished, cops said.
