Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Tuesday ruled out an alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) or any other party for the 2027 Assembly elections, saying BJP would contest all 117 seats on its own.“Saada koi samjhauta nahi, asin 117 seats te kalle larange (We have no alliance with any party, we will contest all 117 seats on our own),” Dhillon said at a press conference at the party headquarters, where he welcomed former SAD MLA Darshan Singh Kotfatta and others into BJP.On speculation of an SAD-BJP alliance following SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal’s recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dhillon said, “As of now, as far as I know as Punjab BJP president, there is no alliance. We will contest all 117 seats alone.”Asked about the possibility of an alliance with SAD (Punar Surjit), Dhillon said the decision was the BJP high command’s purview. On SAD Waris Punjab De fielding Satwant Singh, son of former PM Indira Gandhi assassination convict Kehar Singh, from Bassi Pathana, Dhillon said it was the party’s decision and BJP had no right to interfere. He said BJP was not discussing tickets yet, amid speculation that Jai Inder Kaur, daughter of former CM Captain Amarinder Singh, could be fielded from Bassi Pathana. The party already had “two or three candidates” for several constituencies, he said.On CM Bhagwant Mann’s request to Governor Gulab Chand Kataria for parole for Jagtar Singh Hawara, Dhillon said govt officials had opposed parole three months ago.Rejecting reports of differences in the state unit, Dhillon said BJP was expanding as a political organisation and some differences were natural. He said all leaders would be accommodated and given responsibility. “This is for the first time that we are contesting on 117 seats, as compared to 23 seats we used to contest earlier [in alliance with the SAD]. The party is expanding,” he said.
