Ghaziabad: The preliminary DPR for the proposed Ghaziabad-Jewar Namo Bharat corridor has been made and NCRTC is in the process of finalising it. The corridor, which will start from Ghaziabad, will be 72.5 km and will conclude at Noida International Airport. The distance will be covered in 50 minutes. Officials said a direct Delhi corridor from Sarai Kale Khan to Jewar was explored but eventually shelved.“As proposed in the Dec 29 meeting last year, the Ghaziabad-Jewar Namo Bharat RRTS cum Metro corridor will originate from Ghaziabad Namo Bharat Station and conclude at Noida International Airport. About 71.5 km of the corridor will be elevated and 1.29 km will be underground,” said an NCRTC official. “The underground segment will be in the area of Noida International Airport near Terminal-1 and the ground transportation centre.”A total of 22 stations, apart from the Ghaziabad station, are proposed along the entire corridor. Out of these stations, 21 stations will be elevated, while the last station at NIA is proposed to be underground. “Proposed metro services will be available from Ghaziabad Namo Bharat Station to Ecotech-VI, covering 18 stations, while Namo Bharat services will have 11 stations along the corridor. Seven stations will be common to both Namo Bharat and Metro services,” said the official.Future provision for adding one Namo Bharat station and 11 Metro stations has also been included along the alignment at a later stage. “Two depots are proposed for the corridor — Ecotech-VI Depot, which will serve as the primary depot-cum-workshop, and YEIDA Sector-21 Depot, which will function as the secondary depot,” the official added.The proposed corridor will provide seamless connectivity from Noida International Airport to key destinations across the NCR. The travel time from the airport to Ghaziabad will be under 50 minutes, Sarai Kale Khan under 70 minutes, Delhi Aerocity under 80 minutes and Begumpul under 85 minutes. The corridor will also connect heavily congested and populated areas of Greater Noida.In Dec last year, YEIDA proposed that NCRTC should conduct a fresh survey and prepare a new project report for a revised alignment starting from Sarai Kale Khan to Jewar via Noida City Centre metro station and Surajpur. The decision followed a review, which underlined that Noida airport needed stronger long-term connectivity with Delhi, one that the proposed Ghaziabad-Jewar corridor would fail to deliver and would require major technical modifications. But it was never implemented.
