Gurgaon: The low-lying stretch on the Sector 102-102A road, just before the underpass beneath Dwarka Expressway, continues to witness severe waterlogging after every spell of rain, leaving commuters to negotiate through stagnant water and damaged road sections. Residents said the problem has persisted since the road became operational last year, with every spell of rain turning the stretch into a traffic bottleneck and a safety hazard. The road was redeveloped by GMDA last year at Rs 11.8 crore, which included the construction of a drainage network in the area.At present, pumping machines have been installed to drain out the accumulated water and temporary repairs have been carried out on the damaged carriageway. However, residents said the measures provide only short-term relief, as water continues to collect at the depressed section during heavy rainfall. They have demanded that the road gradient be revised and the drainage system redesigned to permanently eliminate the depression where water collects.The road serves as an important link for commuters travelling between Basai, Dhankot, Kherki Majra, Sector 102, Sector 102A and nearby areas. Residents said there is no alternative route, forcing motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to pass through the flooded stretch even during heavy rain.“The stretch near the Sector 102-102A underpass turns into a pool after every spell of rain, making it extremely risky for commuters. Vehicles have to wade through deep water, leading to traffic jams and frequent breakdowns. A few days ago, the waterlogged road even led to a major accident as the loaded truck toppled onto the road. Temporary pumping may remove the water, but the problem returns with every rainfall. We urge GMDA to implement a permanent solution before someone loses their life,” said Gursimron Singh, a resident of Adani Oyster Grande in Sector 102.Residents said the road surface has repeatedly deteriorated due to prolonged water accumulation. The accumulated water often conceals potholes and uneven patches, increasing the risk of accidents, particularly for two-wheeler riders, who are unable to judge the depth of the water.“This is the only access route for thousands of residents, so we have no option but to drive through the flooded road. Vehicles keep breaking down on this stretch because no one knows how deep the water is. Residents are suffering daily because of the civic apathy,” said Sunil Sareen, vice president of Emaar Imperial Garden RWA.A GMDA official acknowledged that the location has an inherent issue and said a permanent solution has been planned. “The affected location has a depression over a stretch of around 50-60 metres. Earlier, a high-tension (HT) power line passed over the carriageway, which required the road level to be kept lower. This sometimes results in water stagnation due to a mismatch in drain levels. Now that the HT line has been removed, we plan to raise the road to the required level after the monsoon to provide a permanent solution,” the official said.
