Dibrugarh: Four cadres of the banned outfit Ulfa (Independent) surrendered before the Assam Rifles and Longding Police at Wakka in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district on Friday.The surrendered cadres have been identified as self-styled lance corporals Ajay Asom (33), Biplob Asom (31), Monei Asom (28) and self-styled private Bolin Asom (22). The four cadres surrendered four pistols and 17 live rounds of ammunition to the security forces.A senior official of the 44 Assam Rifles said the surrender reflected the growing disillusionment among cadres with the outfit’s activities. “These four individuals have taken a courageous decision to give up the path of violence and join the mainstream. It shows that sustained pressure from security forces, combined with the goodwill generated by our outreach efforts, is yielding positive results. We have consistently urged misguided youths to abandon arms and return to normal life,” the official said.
