Hyderabad: The department of school education will now keep tabs on the fees charged by schools across the state after creating a provision on its portal and directing all private schools to upload their class-wise fee structure for the 2026-27 academic year.Director of School Education E Naveen Nicolas, through a circular issued on Friday, instructed Regional Joint Directors of School Education and District Educational Officers to direct all private school managements to comply with the order.“A provision has been made in the schooledu.telangana.gov.in portal to enable the managements of private schools to upload their fee structure. Officials concerned are requested to issue instructions to all private unaided schools under their control to display the class-wise fee details for the 2026-27 academic year on the school notice board, the school’s website and the newly provided service on the schooledu.telangana.gov.in portal,” the circular said. The director also instructed schools to upload supporting documents used for fixing the class-wise fee for the 2026-27 academic year, along with the signatures of members of the school’s governing body.He further directed officials to issue show-cause notices to schools that fail to display their fee structure on the notice board, the school website and the department’s portal, and to initiate action against them as per Go Ms No 1, which outlines rules for private educational institutions in Andhra Pradesh (erstwhile). The move is expected to bring some relief to parents, who have long complained about exorbitant fees charged by private schools in the state and have been demanding a School Fee Regulation Act.“Uploading the fee structure or submitting audited documents is not new. However, at least now the govt is asking schools to submit them to the department concerned. We hope this will improve transparency and prevent schools from charging fees arbitrarily, as they will now have to officially declare their fee structure,” said K Venkat Sainath of the Hyderabad School Parents Association (HSPA).
