Lucknow: A DCM driver and his helper died after their vehicle rammed into the rear of a truck on the Outer Ring Road (Kisan Path) in Sarojininagar late Wednesday night, prompting a large-scale rescue operation involving the fire department, SDRF and police.The crash took place around 10.45 pm near the Gahru underpass when the DCM (UP92AT3170), travelling from Sarojininagar towards Bijnor, hit a truck moving ahead of it. The impact crushed the DCM’s cabin and left both occupants trapped inside.On receiving the distress call, Sarojininagar Fire Station officer Sumit Pratap Singh reached the spot with a rescue unit. Reinforcements from Alam Bagh Fire Station and Major Disaster Response Vehicle (MDRV) from Hazratganj were also dispatched.“The cabin was completely mangled. Rescue teams used hydraulic cutters and specialised equipment to free the trapped occupants,” Singh said.One man was extricated first, while the second was pulled out after SDRF personnel and additional fire units joined the operation. Both victims were taken to Lok Bandhu Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.Police identified the deceased as Shailendra (39), son of Vakil Singh, and Raja Bhaiya (35), son of the late Lalji. Both were residents of Bariyarpur village in Jalaun district.Officials said identification was confirmed by tracing the vehicle owner through the e-challan system, after which the families were informed. The damaged vehicles were removed using cranes and traffic on Kisan Path was restored. Police have collected evidence and are investigating the cause of the collision.
