New Delhi: Zigana and Glock pistols were among the pistols seized during an operation against the Neeraj Bawana-Naveen Bali gang in the city. The operation also led to the arrest of a notorious criminal Rahul Sehrawat.The special task force of Rohini received specific intelligence that two men would assemble near Anand Vatika in Kanjhawala and that they were allegedly planning to commit a crime. The team laid a trap. Joint CP (Northern) Vijay Singh said that the duo opened fire after spotting the raiding team. The police personnel took cover behind their vehicle and retaliated in self-defence. During the brief exchange, Sehrawat was overpowered and arrested, while Rahul Dabas escaped.Police said one bullet fired by the accused hit the STF vehicle, while two other bullets struck a parked car. No police personnel or either of the accused sustained injuries.During the operation, police recovered five illegal firearms and 18 live cartridges from the apprehended accused. The seizure included a Zigana pistol, a Glock pistol, a .32-bore pistol, two country-made pistols, eight 9 mm cartridges and 10 .30-bore cartridges.Police said Sehrawat has previously been involved in two criminal cases, while Dabas has a criminal record spanning 11 cases. Efforts are under way to trace and arrest the absconding accused.A case has been registered at Kanjhawala police station under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 132 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act. Further investigation is in progress.
