BJP dismisses Kejriwal’s E20 protest as ‘characteristic drama’

New Delhi: BJP Tuesday dismissed AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s protest against E20 petrol as “characteristic drama” involving baseless allegations, insisting that there was no official and authentic study by any established company or laboratory to back the charge that the fuel damaged vehicles.“He is again trying to mislead people in his usual dramatic style without any research or factual basis,” BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi told reporters after Kejriwal tried to lead a march to the PM’s residence against the E20 policy. The fuel was used in various countries, Trivedi said, adding that Kejriwal made big claims about his education but was misleading people. Only a handful of people joined his protest, he claimed.“As a mechanical engineer who graduated from IIT, Kejriwal should have given some expert opinion, but ended up with his familiar antics,” Trivedi said. The BJP MP noted that Kejriwal had said during the Covid crisis that the formula for the vaccine against the virus should have been shared widely to allow its production at a bigger scale without realising the unviability of such an idea.Kejriwal’s opposition to ethanol blending was also against the interests of farmers, Trivedi added.Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra also slammed Kejriwal, saying the AAP chief was “trying to mislead” people on E20.“Keeping in mind AAP’s certain defeat in the 2027 Punjab assembly elections, he is trying to return to social media-driven politics to secure his political future, and his campaign against ethanol-blended petrol is merely the beginning of that strategy. Vehicle owners across India fully understand that ethanol-blended petrol is the fuel of the future and will not be misled by Kejriwal,” he said.Terming E20 “safe”, Malhotra added, “Despite his repeated challenges, Kejriwal has failed to produce even 100 vehicles backed by a certified automobile engineer’s report stating that E20 petrol caused damage to those vehicles.”
