Kolkata: Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya on Sunday cautioned party workers against using loudspeakers as a show of strength and warned them of strict action if members are found collecting “protection money.”“There is no reason to blare loudspeakers during rituals like sankirtan. There is no reason to put up hundreds of loudspeakers for a blood donation camp,” said Bhattacharya at a farmers’ felicitation event at Satgachhi Stadium. The Bengal BJP chief said he had received complaints, including from some businessmen, about such “noise pollution.” “While coming here, I saw loudspeakers put up in far off areas. People feel disturbed. I request the police to curb such noise pollution,” he said.Bhattacharya also warned party workers against what he called “Trinamoolisation” of BJP. “This is the land of Tagore, why bring DJ culture here,” he asked. He further said the party’s Bengal unit workers should not confuse BJP with the likes of Congress or Trinamool.“BJP is not a party that takes protection money. That’s not why this party was formed and that’s not how this party will run,” he said.“The party will act against those who ask for protection money. If unauthorised construction takes place, inform the party. The party won’t spare you if you try to settle the matter personally with the promoter,” the state chief said.“We haven’t changed the regime to change the appearance. We are trying to change the culture. There cannot be Trinamoolisation of BJP. That can never happen, because if it does, it will cease to be BJP,” Bhattacharya added.
