Guwahati: Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday approved the advance release of Rs 379.35 crore to Assam from the Centre’s share of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to bolster flood relief and rehabilitation efforts. Arunachal Pradesh has been sanctioned Rs 44.55 crore.The allocations are part of a Rs 2,117.85-crore package for seven states affected by the southwest monsoon floods — Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Nagaland and Odisha.The home ministry said Assam will receive the first instalment of the Centre’s SDRF share for after documentary requirements were relaxed to ensure timely availability of funds. The Centre has pre-deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and provided defence ministry logistical support where required.Two inter-ministerial central teams have visited Assam to assess the damage, while another has been deputed to Arunachal Pradesh. A team is also being constituted for Nagaland following a request from the state govt.Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and Nagaland have already received their first SDRF instalments for 2026-27.The ministry said the advance funds would strengthen ongoing relief, rescue and rehabilitation operations in the flood-hit states.
