Agartala: State Election Commission will deploy at least 74 companies of Central Armed Police Forces, along with Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles, for the Sept 28 village committee elections under Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.The forces will be deployed before, during and after polling to prevent disruptions and maintain law and order, the commission said.State election commissioner P K Chakraborty held two meetings on Wednesday to review security preparedness, law-and-order arrangements and other election-related measures. The meetings were attended by Director General of Police, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), district election officers-cum-district magistrates and superintendents of police.Officials briefed the commission on steps taken to maintain peace during the campaign and ensure a level playing field for all political parties and candidates. The commission stressed the need to provide voters with a free and democratic atmosphere.Sector officers and police personnel were directed to ensure prompt access for authorised representatives of political parties to polling stations on election day. Area domination exercises and flag marches are being conducted across districts under the supervision of district election officers and SPs.SEC has directed district administrations and police authorities to take all necessary measures to maintain peace and boost voter confidence. Restrictions have been imposed under Section 189 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act.District election officers have also been instructed to ensure drinking water, electricity, furniture and other essential facilities at every polling station.
