Kolkata: A team of officials from Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Wednesday inspected Shantiniketan, a property allegedly owned or co-owned by Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee, his family or his company, as part of an inquiry into alleged unauthorised construction. Officials said the inspection report will be submitted to the KMC buildings department.Shantiniketan, on Harish Mukherjee Road, is among 17 properties under KMC scrutiny. Notices under Section 400(1) of the KMC Act, 1980, alleging deviations from sanctioned building plans, have been pasted at all 17 addresses. KMC’s assessment department had initially identified 42 properties before narrowing the list to 17.According to advocate Indrajit Bhattacharjee, the KMC buildings department regularised an additional floor in 2015 and no unauthorised construction has taken place since. However, officials said a decision will be taken only after the physical verification report is submitted. At a meeting of TMC MLAs on May 20, Banerjee said: “Let them do whatever they want. Raze my home, send notice. I won’t bow down. Come what may, my fight continues against BJP.”
