Panaji: Pernem has become the latest rain gauge station in the state to cross the 1000mm seasonal rainfall milestone, recording a cumulative 1009mm of rainfall since the onset of the southwest monsoon on June 1.According to the rainfall data recorded for the 24-hour period ending at 8.30am on Sunday, Pernem received 11.2mm of rainfall, pushing its seasonal total into four figures. The achievement comes even as monsoon activity across Goa remained below normal this season.So far, Sanguem leads the state with a seasonal total of 1,557.8mm, followed by Canacona (1,545.6mm), Dharbandora (1,502.0mm), Quepem (1,457.3mm), Valpoi (1,446.8mm), Ponda (1,298.5 mm), Margao (1,256.1mm), Sanquelim (1,202.2mm), and Pernem (1,009.0mm).

Ela (Old Goa) is nearing the milestone with a seasonal total of 962.4mm, while Mormugao (876.6mm), Mapusa (855mm), Dabolim (846.5mm), and Panaji (748.9mm) remain below the 1,000mm mark.Despite nine rain gauge stations crossing the 1000mm-mark, Goa continues to face a seasonal rainfall deficit. From June 1 to July 26, the state’s area-weighted average rainfall stood at 1,177.5mm against the normal 1,805.6mm, representing a deficit of 34.8%.The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert till July 29, warning of heavy rainfall with gusty winds at a speed of 40- 50kmph very likely at a few places over Goa.
