COIMBATORE: Two men died after a motorcycle they were travelling on rammed a goods autorickshaw that took a sudden right turn near Ramanathapuram in the city on Friday night. The deceased have been identified as S Shyam, 25, of Augustine Pettai near Sungam, and V Vasanth Kumar, 28, of Puliyakulam. According to police, Shyam and Vasanth Kumar were going to buy a cake to celebrate the latter’s birthday, which is on Saturday. As they were travelling on the Pankaja Mill Road, a goods autorickshaw moving ahead of them turned right without signalling. The motorcycle rammed the goods autorickshaw and then dashed against the road median. Both the riders fell on the road. Shyam suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot. Vasanth Kumar sustained critical injuries on his chest and head and was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, where he died on Saturday. The Traffic Investigation Wing (East) police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act.
