Lucknow: The UP special task force (STF) has uncovered the alleged role of an Ayodhya-based history-sheeter in the daylight murder of Lucknow builder Sandeep Singh, prompting police to add his name to the FIR registered in the case.According to STF officials, Dilip Verma, a history-sheeter from Gosainganj police station in Ayodhya, allegedly supplied the firearm used in the murder and played a key role in the conspiracy behind the killing.The STF has now incorporated his name into the FIR registered at PGI police station after fresh evidence emerged during the investigation. STF additional superintendent of police Deepak Kumar Singh said the murder was carried out by Sanjeev, an associate of Verma’s gang.According to the STF, Sanjeev shot dead Sandeep Singh on May 27 following instructions from Dilip Verma, who allegedly arranged the weapon used in the crime. Investigators said Sanjeev’s son also disclosed Dilip’s involvement during questioning.Police said Dilip is a listed history-sheeter and faces 34 criminal cases registered in Ayodhya, Ambedkar Nagar, Sultanpur and other neighbouring districts. The STF has launched a search operation to trace Dilip.Investigators said Dilip had allegedly been attempting to transition from the criminal world into politics. According to STF sources, he was preparing to contest the Tanda panchayat elections.The STF further claimed that Dilip had close links with the Khan Mubarak gang.Investigators alleged that Sanjeev, who was part of Dilip’s network, was willing to carry out contract killings for money. Sanjeev was killed during an encounter with the STF on June 27.According to the STF, Sanjeev had accepted a contract to eliminate Sandeep, who was shot dead in broad daylight in the PGI area of Lucknow on May 27.
