Girl raped near quarry; 3, including woman, held in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Three persons, including a woman, were arrested in connection with the rape of a 15-year-old girl in Devanahalli, northeast part of the city. Two of the accused, auto driver Naveen Kumar and daily-wage worker Venkataramana, were arrested for the rape. The third accused, Renuka, also a daily-wage worker, was arrested on charges of luring the girl and handing her over to the two men. The three were sent to judicial custody in Bengaluru Central Prison.Police said the incident occurred on the night of July 17 when Renuka visited the girl’s home and requested her to accompany her to a nearby temple. “In the past too, the child had gone with Renuka to the temple. So she went with her without suspecting anything,” police sources said. However, instead of visiting the temple, Renuka took the girl near Devanahalli bus stand, where Naveen Kumar and Venkataramana were waiting. “Renuka pushed the girl into the auto and the three-wheeler was driven to a desolate place near a quarry. There, the girl was forced to consume alcohol and then raped,” sources said.Later, Renuka took the girl back home after Naveen and Venkataramana threatened her not to reveal the incident. The survivor, unable to bear the agony and physical pain, told her mother two days later. The mother then filed a police complaint.
