Hyderabad: A constable posted at Gurrampode police station in Nalgonda district has been arrested and remanded in a Pocso case for allegedly sexually harassing a 12-year-old girl.The district police chief has suspended him from service, while a departmental inquiry has also been ordered. The constable was previously arrested in two other Pocso cases, both of which are pending trial.According to police, the 45-year-old accused allegedly made vulgar remarks at the minor girl while she was riding a bicycle in Nalgonda town on July 14. Police said he had covered his face with a mask during the incident in an apparent attempt to avoid identification.The girl later informed her family about the incident, following which her father lodged a complaint with Nalgonda I Town police. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under section 11 (sexual harassment) read with section 12 of the Pocso Act on the same day.Investigators examined CCTV footage from multiple locations and identified the accused as a constable attached to Gurrampode police station.“The accused was arrested on July 17 and produced before the magistrate. He was sent to judicial remand,” Nalgonda I Town circle iInspector A Rajasekhar Reddy said.Following the arrest, Nalgonda I Town police submitted a report to district SP Sharath Chandra Pawar, stating that the constable had earlier been involved in two POCSO cases registered at Nalgonda II Town police station while he was posted in Nakrekal during 2022-23.Police said he was arrested and remanded in both cases and that the trials are currently pending before the court.
