GURGAON: A motorcycle carrying an astonishing 104 unpaid traffic challans amounting to Rs 3.44 lakh was impounded by Gurugram Traffic Police during a routine checking drive near Medanta Hospital on Friday, officials said.The motorcycle was seized during a special enforcement drive being carried out by the traffic police against repeat offenders and vehicle owners who have failed to clear long-pending challans under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.According to officials, ASI Krishan Kumar, zonal officer at Medanta, along with his team, stopped the motorcycle for inspection.When asked to produce the vehicle documents, the rider was unable to furnish them.Subsequent verification revealed that the two-wheeler had accumulated 104 pending challans under various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, with the total penalty amounting to Rs 3.44 lakh.Police said the majority of the challans were issued for offences such as riding without a helmet, driving on the wrong side of the road, operating the vehicle without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate and other traffic violations.The motorcycle was later impounded and shifted to the designated parking facility in accordance with legal procedures.Gurugram Police urged motorists to follow traffic regulations, keep essential documents such as insurance papers and PUC certificates updated, and clear pending challans on time.(With PTI inputs)
