Bengaluru: A 30-year-old carpenter strangled his pregnant wife to death using a dog’s leash and died by suicide in their rented house at Channamanakere Achhukattu, south Bengaluru, Thursday.The incident came to light when house owner Shekhar called Channamanakere Achhukattu police in the afternoon, stating the couple — Manoj Kumar and wife Swapna — were heard fighting loudly after which there was no response from their first-floor house.Police broke the lock and found Swapna’s body in the bedroom and Manoj hanging from the ceiling fan. There was no death note, a police officer said, adding they are yet to check the couple’s mobile phones for messages or calls that could help them know the reason behind the deaths.Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, the couple came to the city a few years ago and moved into the rented house last year.Youth beaten to death post volleyball matchA 20-year-old house-keeping staffer was beaten to death by relatives over a volleyball match-related fight in near HAL Wednesday night.Police said victim Gajendra and two relatives — Narendra and Govinda — lived in a rented room. Every day, they played volleyball and argued after the match. “They fought again Wednesday evening. On returning to the room, they attacked Gajendra, punching him on the face and dashing his head against the wall. When Gajendra collapsed, neighbours shifted him to hospital where he succumbed. The accused are absconding,” an investigating officer said.
