Hyderabad: Union minister G Kishan Reddy on Sunday accused the state govt of prioritising the auction of land over the city’s civic needs. Chief minister A Revanth Reddy is paying more attention to land auctions than to the city’s mounting drinking water and infrastructure problems, he added.Addressing the media after concluding his padayatra in the Amberpet assembly constituency, Kishan Reddy said institutions such as SBI had raised concerns over the land auction, but the govt was pressing ahead regardless, while failing to address issues such as drinking water supply and maintenance of streetlights. The BJP leader expressed concern over the possibility of a drinking water crisis in Hyderabad, citing erratic weather patterns and deficient rainfall. He pointed out that rainfall in June was 50% lower than the corresponding period last year, warning that continued deficits could hit agricultural output and trigger water shortages.Kishan Reddy said Hyderabad, which is home to nearly 40% of Telangana’s population, was already witnessing drinking water problems in several localities despite the ongoing monsoon season.“If people are facing water shortages during the rainy season itself, they are naturally worried about the situation in summer,” he said, urging the govt to prepare a comprehensive action plan to tackle the issue.Noting that Hyderabad was expanding rapidly and attracting global companies, Kishan Reddy said the state govt had a responsibility to upgrade civic infrastructure in line with the city’s growth. He alleged that Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the state govt failed to improve sewer systems, internal roads and sanitation facilities.Kishan Reddy said BJP would continue its agitation until the problems faced by city residents were resolved.
