HC refuses to stop release of ‘Idhayam Murali’

Chennai: Madras high court on Friday refused to stay the release of the Atharvaa-starrer ‘Idhayam Murali’, directed and produced by Aakash Bhaskaran.Film director Sudha Kongara had approached the high court seeking to restrain the movie’s release on Friday, citing pending payment of ₹8.39 crore from Dawn Pictures for the movie ‘Parasakthi’ she had helmed for the same production house.In her petition, Sudha Kongara said she was promised ₹15 crore to direct the movie with actor Sivakarthikeyan in the lead, but ₹8.39 crore was due. She also sought a restriction on the sale of the movie rights to a third party, apart from the declaration of the revenue through the sale of satellite and OTT rights of the movie ‘Parasakthi’.Judge Kumaresh Babu, before whom the matter came up for hearing on Friday, refused to pass an interim injunction against the release of ‘Idhayam Murali’ and directed Sudha Kongara to settle the matter through arbitration.
