Panchkula: A surprise three-hour traffic enforcement drive led by deputy commissioner of police (crime and traffic) Amrinder Singh at the Sector 11 market on Saturday penalised 98 traffic violators, impounded six vehicles, and collected ₹2.9 lakh in total fines. The operation targeted haphazardly parked vehicles that were causing severe congestion and blocking major commuter lanes.During the inspection, Singh noticed widespread illegal parking along the main market roads, prompting him to order the traffic wing to launch on-the-spot penal action. The team subsequently issued 88 online challans (e-fines) for illegal parking, totaling ₹1.6 lakh, alongside four manual challans amounting to ₹3,000.The police also impounded six vehicles that were severely obstructing traffic, which drew an additional ₹1.35 lakh in penalties.Officials stated that despite repeated public awareness campaigns and clear “no parking” signboards installed at key spots, motorists continue to violate traffic codes. The police warned that illegal parking disrupts smooth traffic flow and drastically raises the risk of road accidents. The DCP stated that these sudden enforcement actions will continue across Panchkula’s major commercial markets and busy public zones. He warned that strict legal action will persist against anyone violating rules, urging citizens to use designated parking spaces and cooperate with traffic personnel.
