Kolkata: In a cyber fraud case involving artificial intelligence (AI), an 81-year-old senior citizen from north Kolkata was swindled of Rs 17.8 lakh. The fraud was triggered after the elderly resident clicked on a link embedded in a YouTube video that featured a fake, AI-generated likeness of union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman promoting an investment portfolio.The Tala police station registered a case on Monday under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including fraud, forgery, and criminal conspiracy, following a complaint by the octogenarian, who resides on Indra Biswas Road. Cops said the fraud took place between May 8 and June 8.
