6-yr-old boy kidnapped by jobless tenant for ransom dies

Gorakhpur: A six-year-old boy who went missing from Sahjanwa on Thursday evening was kidnapped and killed allegedly by a tenant residing in the same house, police said on Friday. The accused, identified as Kalpesh, has been arrested afterCCTV footage helped investigators trace his involvement.The victim, Anshuman Singh, a UKG student and son of Vinay Singh alias Kanhaiya, stepped out of his home in Pipra Nai Colony around 5 pm on Thursday but never returned. After an overnight search, police registered a kidnapping case and launched an intensive investigation. According to police, CCTV footage from a nearby marriage hall showed the child walking with Kalpesh, 28, who had been staying as a tenant in the family’s property since May 26. During questioning, the accused initially tried to mislead investigators but later confessed to kidnapping the boy with the intention of demanding ransom from his father.Police said Kalpesh lost his job at a factory in GIDA about a month ago and was facing financial difficulties. He took the child out on pretext of eating golgappas and led him to an abandoned structure near Luchui railway overbridge.He told police that while attempting to tie the boy’s hands and feet, the child’s head struck a wall, resulting in his death.Panicking after the incident, the accused abandoned the body at the site and fled. Kalpesh led police to the body lying 200 metres behind the child’s residence based.SSP Dr Kaustubh said further action will be taken after the postmortem report and forensic examination.
