Shillong: Of the 21,69,243 electors listed in Meghalaya’s draft electoral roll, 542 have been found ineligible for inclusion in the final roll after scrutiny and the prescribed process, officials said.The period for filing claims and objections, which was scheduled to end on Tuesday, Sept 15, has been extended to Sept 18, 2026.The disposal of claims and objections, along with completion of hearings, will continue until Oct 17. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on Oct 21, 2026.CM Conrad K Sangma urged all citizens who have been served notices to cooperate with Election Department and the respective deputy commissioners and complete the process.Sangma made the appeal after meeting chief electoral officer BDR Tiwari and other election department officials to review the ongoing Special Intensive Revision in Meghalaya.CM expressed satisfaction over the “exhaustive exercise undertaken by Team Meghalaya to ensure that no genuine elector is left behind”.Earlier in the day, Tiwari held a virtual review meeting with deputy commissioners and election officers of all 12 districts. He urged them to expedite the remaining notice delivery and hearings and ensure that every elector is given a fair and reasonable opportunity to be heard.“Electors who could not attend on the originally scheduled date should also be provided another opportunity for hearing,” Tiwari said.He reiterated that receiving a notice does not mean “automatic deletion” from the electoral roll.“A notice provides the elector an opportunity to clarify the issue identified during scrutiny and furnish the prescribed supporting documents. No name appearing in the draft electoral roll shall be deleted without following the prescribed procedure and providing due opportunity of hearing,” Tiwari said.Electors whose names are not included in the draft electoral roll may submit Form 6, along with the prescribed declaration form and supporting documents, within the stipulated period.At a separate meeting with political parties, Tiwari requested them to continue assisting electors, especially those who have received notices or whose names are not included in the draft electoral roll, so they can avail themselves of the opportunities available under the revision process.
