Surat: Vesu police have booked five people for allegedly conspiring to extort Rs 50 lakh from a real estate broker in connection with an angadia transaction.According to the complaint, the accused had sought the victim’s help in arranging the delivery of Rs 50 lakh from a Delhi-based angadia firm to Surat. After the money allegedly failed to reach the intended recipient, the accused held the victim responsible and began demanding the entire amount from him. They threatened him and forcibly took land documents, cash and keys from him.According to the case details, complainant, Vinit Desai, has been working as a real estate broker in Surat for the past 17 years. In 2024, when he was also involved in the vegetable trade, he came in contact with one of the accused, Moin Chaki of Bhuj.In May 2026, Chaki sought Desai’s reference to facilitate the delivery of Rs 50 lakh from Delhi. Desai referred him to their common acquaintance, Ashiq Khan alias Bablu. Chaki and Khan subsequently discussed the transaction with Desai and told him that a Delhi-based party had deposited Rs 50 lakh with Krishna Bhagat Angadia in Delhi for delivery to Surat.In June, Chaki allegedly called Desai and claimed that Khan had failed to deliver the Rs 50 lakh to the Surat party. He then demanded that Desai pay the amount and asked him to contact Khan.Police said Chaki subsequently allegedly took two blank cheques from Desai by force. One of the cheques was later filled in for Rs 20 lakh. Chaki allegedly continued threatening Desai and demanded Rs 50 lakh, even threatening to sell his kidney if the amount was not paid.On Aug 26, Chaki and his associate Musa allegedly met Desai, recorded a video in which he was made to state that he owed Rs 50 lakh and would pay Rs 25 lakh the following day. They also allegedly took documents related to three land deals from him.On Aug 27, Chaki, Musa and Imran Khan allegedly tried to abduct Desai near his residence. Desai alerted the police, who reached the spot and took the accused to Vesu police station.Based on Desai’s complaint, police booked the accused for extortion, criminal intimidation and criminal conspiracy.
