Ahmedabad: A 480-metre-long bridge over Sabarmati for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train corridor has been completed.National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited officials stated that the 36-metre-high bridge is located between Sabarmati and Ahmedabad bullet train stations. It is around 1km from Sabarmati station and 4km from Ahmedabad station, adjacent to Western Railway’s Ahmedabad-Delhi main line.

The bridge is supported by eight circular piers, with diameters ranging from 6m to 6.5m. Four piers are located within the riverbed, two on the riverbanks and two outside the banks. The arrangement was designed to minimise obstruction to the river’s waterway, said officials.

Unlike most river bridges on the corridor, which have spans of around 40m, Sabarmati bridge has longer spans ranging from 50m to 76m, reducing the number of piers required in the river.

The structure comprises five 76-metre spans and two 50-metre spans, with each span made up of 23 segments cast at the site.The bullet train corridor includes 25 river bridges, of which 21 have been planned in Gujarat. With Sabarmati bridge completed, 18 of Gujarat’s 21 river bridges have now been completed.
