48% of water project finished: IIT experts

Ludhiana: A three-member expert team from IIT Roorkee carried out a two-day technical review of the Ludhiana Bulk Water Supply Scheme (LBWSS), a major infrastructure project funded by the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and being executed by the Municipal Corporation.The review was conducted in coordination with the project implementation unit (PIU), which presented the status of various project components. IIT Roorkee experts appreciated the progress achieved so far, noting that nearly 48% of the physical work has been completed. They also lauded the pace of construction across different project sites.As part of the visit, the team inspected the 580 million litres per day (MLD) water treatment plant being constructed at Bilga village. They also visited several Overhead Service Reservoir (OHSR) sites and reviewed the ongoing laying of mild steel (MS) pipelines. The experts assessed construction activities on the ground, interacted with engineers and project personnel, and examined execution of works at multiple locations.During the review, special emphasis was laid on evaluating whether the construction was being carried out in accordance with approved designs, technical specifications and prescribed quality standards. The experts assessed workmanship and implementation practices while reviewing the progress of civil and pipeline works.The visit also served as a platform for technical knowledge-sharing between experts and the project implementation team. Detailed discussions were held on various technical and site-level challenges being encountered during execution. The IIT Roorkee team offered suggestions aimed at strengthening construction quality, improving workmanship and ensuring smooth implementation of the project.Officials said the review helped identify practical measures to enhance project execution and maintain timelines. The recommendations are expected to support the project team in addressing challenges efficiently while adhering to quality benchmarks.The Ludhiana Bulk Water Supply Scheme is one of the city’s key infrastructure projects and is intended to strengthen the urban water supply system. Officials said regular monitoring and technical reviews by expert institutions are helping ensure that the project progresses in line with approved standards and deadlines.
