Gurgaon: Around 4,500 police personnel, including traffic cops, have been deployed across the district and checkpoints have been set up at 11 major locations as part of the security arrangement for Independence Day.Checks will be carried out at Sirhaul border, DLF Phase 3, Bakhtawar Chowk, Dundahera, Kaliawas and six other locations till celebrations conclude on Aug 15, an officer said, adding that screening will also be done at hotels, malls, clubs and spots which attract crowds.Five major events will be held across the district as part of the celebrations. The main district-level Independence Day function will be held at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Sector 38, where Haryana assembly deputy speaker Krishan Lal Middha will hoist the national flag.At New Grain Market in Haileymandi-Pataudi, Pataudi MLA Bimla Chaudhary will unfurl the national flag while Faridabad NIT MLA Satish Kumar will attend a function as chief guest at Govt Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School in Sector 43. Two other events will be at Shaheed and Freedom Fighters Memorial Stadium in Nakhrola-Manesar and Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Sohna, which will be attended by Gurgaon MLA Mukesh Sharma and Sohna MLA Tejpal Tanwar respectively.

“Security arrangements will cover the five main celebration venues, VIP routes, entry and exit points, parking areas and adjoining locations. Separate entry arrangements will be maintained for VIPs and the general public,” police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said, adding that cops will also be deployed on rooftops of high-rise buildings around the celebration venues.Visitors will be screened using door-frame metal detectors and hand-held metal detectors. Women visitors will be screened by women police personnel, with dedicated frisking cabins at the venues, he added.Quick reaction teams will be positioned at VIP stages and other strategic points. Five fire tenders and five ambulances will remain stationed at different celebration venues for emergency response.During VIP movement, traffic personnel will be positioned at road cuts, traffic signals, T-points, flyovers and underpasses to regulate traffic.Police personnel deployed at the checkpoints will be equipped with reflective jackets, torches and wireless communication sets and will check suspicious persons and vehicles.“Additional checkpoints may be set up depending on the requirement. Ahead of Independence Day, police teams will also check hotels, inns, dharamshalas, restaurants, malls and clubs. The checks will focus on suspicious persons and objects. Anti-sabotage teams will conduct checks at the major celebration venues and along VIP routes. Suspicious bags, luggage and unidentified articles will not be allowed inside the venues,” Turan said.

Police said senior police officers will supervise security arrangements at each of the major celebration venues and appeal to the residents attending Independence Day events to follow designated entry and parking arrangements. They also asked residents to remain alert and inform them about any suspicious person, object or activity.
