Mohali: A total of 34 snakebite cases have been reported in Mohali district over the past 100 days, prompting the Health Department to urge residents to seek immediate treatment at government hospitals rather than relying on tantriks, babas or unqualified practitioners.Civil Surgeon Dr Sangeeta Jain said free treatment for snakebite victims is available at government health facilities across the district, where anti-snake venom (ASV) injections are stocked and administered free of cost.She appealed to residents not to approach tantriks, babas or quacks for treatment, stressing that snakebites require prompt medical attention and that delays can prove fatal. Free ASV injections are available at government hospitals in Mohali, Kharar, Kurali, Boothgarh, Gharuan, Derabassi, Dhakoli, Banur and Lalru.Nodal Officer Dr Harmandeep Kaur said snakebite incidents typically rise during the monsoon season. While Punjab is home to several non-venomous snake species, venomous snakes such as the common krait, Russell’s viper and cobra are also found in the state.
