Gurgaon: Nearly one in every three registered voters in Gurgaon has been left out of the draft electoral roll published on Friday under Election Commission’s special intensive revision (SIR), giving the district the highest percentage of omissions in Haryana.Official data shows Gurgaon had 15.5 lakh registered voters as of June 1. The draft roll, however, contains only around 11 lakh names, leaving over 4.5 lakh electors out because enumeration forms were not submitted during the door-to-door verification drive. While Faridabad has a higher number of omissions at around 5 lakh, it also has a larger electorate. But percentage-wise, Gurgaon has the steepest drop in the state — almost 30%.Together, the twin NCR districts of Gurgaon and Faridabad account for nearly 9.5 lakh of the 33.8 lakh voters flagged for deletion across Haryana — about 28% of the state’s proposed omissions.District election officer and deputy commissioner Uttam Singh urged residents to verify their names immediately, saying eligible voters left out of the draft roll can file claims and objections between July 31 and Aug 30.“No eligible voter should miss this opportunity. Claims and objections received during this period will be examined before the final electoral roll is published on Oct 3,” he said.The figures also reflect the challenges that marked the SIR exercise in Gurgaon. TOI had earlier reported that booth level officers (BLOs) struggled to contact residents in gated societies, high-rise apartments and corporate hubs, where many houses remained locked, occupants had shifted, or people were simply reluctant to fill enumeration forms. High migration, frequent job-related movement and poor response during repeated visits slowed the exercise compared with other districts.Officials said the 4.5 lakh voters fall under the “uncollected/ASDD” category, which means that their enumeration forms were not received during the verification drive. Separately, 2.2 lakh voter records have anomalies requiring scrutiny, while another 19,206 electors are yet to be mapped to polling stations. These voters will receive notices and will have to submit supporting documents with electoral registration officers before the final roll is prepared.For eligible voters whose names are missing, the process is still open. Those omitted from the draft list can also submit the prescribed declaration along with supporting documents before the electoral registration officer or the Election Commission’s portal. Citizens who turned 18 on or before July 1 can apply through Form 6, while Form 7 can be used to raise objections or seek deletion of names. Form 8 is meant for corrections or change of address.Constituency-wise figures underline the scale of omissions. Badshapur, the district’s largest assembly segment, has 3.7 lakh names in the draft roll against 5.4 lakh registered voters earlier. Gurgaon constituency has 2.7 lakh names against 4.5 lakh previously, Sohna 2.5 lakh against 3 lakh, and Pataudi 2.2 lakh against 2.6 lakh.Across Haryana, the draft SIR has flagged 33.8 lakh voters for deletion. Of these, 24.1 lakh were found to have shifted permanently, remained absent or did not respond during enumeration, while 7.7 lakh were reported dead and 2 lakh identified as possible duplicate registrations.Chief electoral officer A Sreenivas said no voter would be deleted without due process.
