Varanasi: In three separate encounters by Kotwali, Barsathi-Rampur and Mirganj-Pawara police, three criminals were arrested after suffering bullet injury in their legs in Jaunpur district on Thursday morning. The arrested criminals have multiples cases, including loot, theft and murder lodged at separate police stations.According Jaunpur SP Kunwar Anupam Singh, Kotwali police were busy in night patrolling near Begumganj Chungi, when informers alerted them regarding movement of a criminal on Katghara-Tutipur pontoon Bridge road. The cops cordoned off the road and started checking passersby. When the police team signalled a motorcyclist to stop, the rider took a U-turn in a bid to escape but fell on road. Thereafter, he started firing at the police team.In retaliatory firing by the cops, he suffered bullet injury in leg. The cops recovered a country-made pistol, cartridges, Rs 540 cash, a motorcycle and a phone before rushing him to hospital. He was identified as Nafees. During questioning, he confessed his involvement in many cases of theft, robbery, and contract killings.A joint team of Barsathi and Rampur police stations also succeeded in arresting a robber, Rustam, following an exchange of fire on Mahmoodpur Bairi Patti-Rasoolha Alamganj Road, although his accomplice managed to escape. Police recovered a country-made pistol, cartridges, and a motorcycle from him. Later, he was rushed to hospital. He confessed his involvement in several loot and robbery cases.A joint team of Mirganj and Pavara police stations nabbed a criminal, Mohammad Umar, following an encounter near Chitawn. Police recovered a pistol, cartridges, and a motorcycle from his possession.
