Bengaluru: Two construction workers died and three others were injured when a 20-foot-deep soil wall caved in at a BDA underpass construction site near FTI Circle, north Bengaluru, Tuesday morning. The victims are Parimal, 31, and Sonaram, 26, while Sadanand, Sunil and Imtiyaz escaped with injuries.Police said the incident took place around 11am. “All the five workers were on site. They were draining water for reinforced cement concrete work when all of a sudden, the wet soil walls/earth caved in,” an officer said.“While three workers managed to pull themselves and come up, Sonaram and Parimal were buried. When rescue teams, including police and sleuths from fire and emergency services, started digging the earth, Sonaram was found first. He was unconscious and shifted to a nearby private hospital, where he succumbed. Further digging helped in tracing Parimal, but he had died by then,” eyewitnesses said.Based on a complaint filed by the victims’ family, Nandini Layout police registered a criminal case against the contracting company, PJB Engineers Private Ltd, and its officials. “The case has been booked under BNS Section 106 (causing death due to negligence),” an investigating officer said.
