Police investigate the Sector 19 crime scene in Panchkula

Panchkula: More than 24 hours after two men were found dead following a violent clash in Sector 19, Panchkula police are yet to make any arrests in the sensational double murder case, though several suspects have been detained for questioning.Investigators Saturday intensified efforts to crack the case by analysing CCTV footage and questioning people present during the incident to identify those directly involved in the killings. The violence erupted late Friday night during celebrations for the naming ceremony of six-day-old son of 20-year-old Sanjeet, who was allegedly stabbed to death with a sharp-edged weapon. Hours later, the body of Arjun, a resident of Khadak Mangoli who had attended the function, was found at the same location, prompting police to link both deaths to the same clash.According to police, Sanjeet had left the function for some work in Abhaypur. While returning, he allegedly noticed a group of youths following him and called his cousin Vipin, saying he was being chased. Family members later found him critically injured near the underpass in Sector 19 Industrial Area and rushed him to Civil Hospital, Sector 6, where doctors declared him dead.Sector 20 SHO Somvir Dhaka said investigations revealed that Arjun had married Sanjeet’s sister and that the two men were involved in a dispute over the marriage. Police suspect the rivalry escalated into a violent confrontation involving supporters and friends of both sides, resulting in the deaths of both men.Police have recovered knives believed to have been used in the attack and sent them for forensic examination. CCTV footage from surrounding areas is also being examined as investigators work to identify and trace the assailants.
