Amritsar: Ahead of US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor’s scheduled visit to Amritsar, police detained two persons for allegedly writing graffiti carrying the slogan “Punjab is not India” at different locations in the city.Amritsar Commissioner of Police Harmanbir Singh Gill said late Saturday evening that the two were allegedly working for US-designated Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun and had been paid to write the graffiti.Preliminary investigation revealed that the two suspects, both in their twenties, were allegedly paid Rs 5,000 each for the job, Gill said.Earlier on Saturday, Pannun, in a media release, claimed that ahead of Gor’s planned Sept 28 visit to the Golden Temple, “pro-Khalistan Sikhs” had painted slogans at Amritsar railway station, Hall Gate and Bhandari Bridge.According to reports, Gor is expected to visit the Golden Temple, Partition Museum and Jallianwala Bagh during his stay in Amritsar before returning to Delhi by Monday evening.Police sources said elaborate security arrangements were being made for the US ambassador’s visit, with security being stepped up at all places on his itinerary. A detailed traffic management plan is also being put in place.
