15 construction sites fined for mosquito breeding

Ahmedabad: As part of its monsoon drive to curb vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Friday launched a special inspection drive to check mosquito breeding at construction sites in the city’s eastern zone.Civic body’s health department officials inspected 151 construction sites and found mosquito breeding at 15 sites. The AMC issued notices to the violators and recovered administrative charges totalling Rs 42,800.Civic officials said dengue and malaria causing mosquitoes primarily breed in clean, stagnant water, making construction sites particularly vulnerable during the monsoon if water is allowed to accumulate. The civic body has urged builders, residents and commercial establishments to ensure that stagnant water does not collect on their premises. It also stressed the need for regular inspections of water accumulation points, especially during the rainy season, to prevent mosquito breeding and reduce the risk of vector-borne diseases.
