Ludhiana: The state government will provide financial assistance to 144 beneficiaries from weaker sections to repair their homes under the Rangla Punjab scheme. Each recipient, primarily from the Jawahar Nagar camp area in Ward 72, will receive Rs 35,000 to fix dilapidated roofs, totaling an expenditure of Rs 50.4 lakh.The proposal was recently approved by the Ludhiana municipal corporation’s finance and contracts committee after officials verified the poor condition of the houses. Beyond damaged roofs, inspectors found that several homes also had broken floors and door frames.Under the broader Rangla Punjab initiative, six urban MLAs have each received Rs 2.5 crore for development works. These funds are being used for various projects, including the construction of libraries, community halls, and the development of public parks.Sham Lal Gupta, superintending engineer with building and road branch, confirmed that the civic body has already collected bank details and photo IDs to facilitate payments.
