100% decline in gangster-linked murders in 3 months: DGP

Chandigarh: From four gangster-linked killings reported in January to zero in March, Punjab recorded a “100% decline in gangster-linked murder cases” within three months of the launch of ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said here on Tuesday.“Not just murders, the state has also recorded a massive 69% decline in gangster-linked firing incidents — from 29 in the first month of the year to just nine reported till April 20,” Yadav mentioned in a written statement.He claimed that the “Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign “has struck at the core of gangster networks”. “The cases of extortion dropped by 10.9%, from 110 incidents reported in January to 98 in March,” he added.The DGP said, “With the establishment of a toll-free anti-gangster helpline (93946-93946), more citizens are coming forward to report extortion-related calls.”MSID:: 130420782 413 |
