1 feared trapped as fire engulfs 7th floor of Bandra building | Mumbai News



Mumbai: A major fire broke out on the top floor of the residential ground-plus-seven-storey Atlantic Building on Sherly Rajan Road in Bandra West on Wednesday night, with one person feared trapped as firefighters battled to contain the blaze.According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the incident was reported at 9.12 pm through the civic control room. Fire engines, police personnel, 108 ambulance services, Adani Electricity staff and ward officials were rushed to the spot. The fire was upgraded to a Level-I incident at 9.56 pm.The blaze engulfed the floor within minutes, making access difficult for rescue teams. Locals said firefighters struggled to reach the affected premises due to the intensity and spread of flames. Reports from the spot suggested that one person may be trapped inside, although officials could not confirm the information till the time of going to press.Local corporator Swapna Mhatre said the fire spread rapidly across the affected floor. “Several fire engines are at the site, and personnel are working continuously to prevent the blaze from spreading further. However, the flames remain intense,”she said.Madhu Poplai of the Pali Hill Residents’ Association said the flames were visible from the upper floors of neighbouring buildings, triggering panic in the area. “The fire could be seen raging across the top floor of the building, and residents watched in horror as the flames spread. We are hoping that no lives are lost and that the fire brigade can bring the situation under control quickly,” she said.Firefighting operations were underway at the time of going to press. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, and no official confirmation of casualties or injuries was issued.
