Aizawl: Mizoram’s ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) on Wednesday suspended senior leader and party consultant C Laltanpuia, a day after he publicly criticised the party and the ZPM-led state govt at a news conference held without the leadership’s approval.In an office order, ZPM general headquarters president Lalliansawta said Laltanpuia’s remarks tarnished the party’s image and damaged the reputation of the govt. He was suspended from the post of party consultant with immediate effect under Article 38(2) of the party constitution. The party, however, said no decision was taken on his primary membership and that the matter would be placed before the political affairs committee.Laltanpuia, a former ZPM treasurer and PAC member, raised 14 concerns over the functioning of the party and govt. He said his move was not an attack on ZPM but an attempt to push for clear policies and strengthen the organisation.He also questioned the implementation of the party’s promised “Kalphung thar” or new system of governance, and said policy discussions became scarce within the party.Laltanpuia said he would explain his 14 points through his YouTube channel from July 8. Separately, ZPM said Lalliansawta would be replaced by MLA V L Zaithanzama as interim president from Friday due to ill health.
