Zeeshan Siddique files second police complaint over audio death threat

Mumbai: NCP’s Zeeshan Siddique on Friday lodged a second complaint with Bandra police, alleging that he has received an audio death threat on WhatsApp from an unknown person claiming to be Zeeshan Akhtar, an alleged member of Lawrence Bishnoi gang and a key accused in the murder of his father, former NCP minister Baba Siddique.The caller also allegedly told Siddique that the threat was not motivated by money and that he had no objection to Siddique’s wealth, but took issue with what he described as Siddique’s “illegal business” activities. The caller allegedly stated that he had ordered the elimination of Baba Siddique two years before he was murdered in Oct 2024.According to the complaint, the sender, who claimed to be associated with gangster Rohit Godara, threatened to kill Zeeshan Siddique in the same manner as his father. Siddique, who had been travelling abroad, returned to Mumbai on Thursday and approached Bandra police station.“I have lodged my complaint with the Bandra police. They are registering a non-cognisable offence. I will soon meet the chief minister and the commissioner of police after consulting senior leaders of my party and will insist on the registration of an FIR,” Siddique told TOI.Police said Siddique received the voice note from a Portugal-based phone number while he was overseas. In the message, the caller identified himself as Zeeshan Akhtar and claimed links to Godara gang.The caller further warned Zeeshan Siddique that he too would be killed despite moving with heavy security.Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister, was shot dead in Bandra on Oct 12, 2024. Police have alleged that the murder was carried out by members of Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Zeeshan Akhtar, named as one of the accused in the case, remains absconding. So far, police have arrested more than 27 alleged members of Lawrence Bishnoi gang in connection with the investigation.
