Youth drowns in lake while fleeing police
A 20-year-old man drowned in Retteri Lake near Rajamangalam on Monday after jumping into the water while attempting to flee from a police patrol team that responded to a public complaint about alcohol consumption and ganja use in a residential area. The body was recovered by fire and rescue personnel and sent to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Chennai: A 20-year-old man, who jumped into a lake in his bid to escape from police, following a complaint about alcohol consumption and ganja use in a residential area, drowned and died on Monday. The incident occurred in Retteri Lake near Rajamangalam. The man’s body was recovered by fire and rescue personnel and sent to Govt Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.According to police, residents informed the Rajamangalam police at around 3.45pm on June 16 that four youths were consuming alcohol and smoking ganja on 10th Street, Sivasakthi Nagar. When a police patrol team rushed to the spot, the four youths fled the scene. While three of them escaped, one youth, Gerald David, 20, jumped into Retteri Lake in an attempt to evade arrest.When Gerald David failed to return, police alerted the fire and rescue services department, who fished out the body from the lake at around 6.40pm.The victim, Gerald David Johnson, was a daily wage labourer residing in Rajamangalam near Villivakkam.
